Central Oregon Locations

Picking the right spot for your photos 2023

Every year, I like to take inventory of my favorite places in Central Oregon and share a few of them with my followers. This year I am going to touch base on three of my favorite places.

Believe it or not, I have not always lived in Oregon. It wasn't until I turned 21 in 2013 that I decide to move to the Great Bever State. Born in West Virginia, my family and I moved to Maryland when I was still a baby. After 2001, my mom and I moved to Texas to start fresh after some unfortunate life events. I never saw myself as someone who would continue living in Texas as an adult. I actually looked at a few out-of-state colleges but decided at that time I wasn't ready for college. I took a gap year (or two) before signing up for community college in Dallas, TX. This wasn't ideal but I had to place my trust in Gods hand and let my life unfold as He planned for it.

How in the world did I end up in Oregon then?

The simple answer is that I have roots in Central Oregon. My dad was born and raised here. While he moved away when he fell in love with my mom, the rest of his family stayed. This means that I have visited many times from babyhood to adulthood. It was my last visit out this way when I was 20 that I decided I wanted to make a change and move to Oregon. My aunt offered me a free room while I attended college and eventually, I met my husband, who is a born and raised Central Oregonian. Together we have created a life here with our three beautiful children.

My heart has never felt such peace as it does here in Oregon, and I am proud to call this place home. The landscape is beautiful, the people are lovely, and there is always something new to explore. I have been blessed and I love being able to share these beautiful landscapes with my clients during their sessions.

The Number One Question

And my answer
My NUMBER ONE question: "Do you have any recommendations on a location for our session?"

I love helping my clients find the perfect spot for their session. Why? Because the location says a lot about who they are. Location helps enhance the experience and background of the photos. While most of clients have a rough idea of where they want to go, others might not be familiar with the area. This why I make it part of stander work to ask questions regrading location.

A new family might feel more comfortable taking their photos at home because of the newborn. Some couples might be adventurous and on lookout for something a bit more daring. And a senior might want to include hobbies or extracurricular activities such as baseball or reading (I have seen multiple sessions recently at bookstores). This is why picking the right location for your session is important. Not only do you want to capture the smiles of your family and friends, but you want your backdrop to be YOU, however that might look.

I have a few places that hold a special place in my heart and are my go-to when I am asked this question. Below you will find three of my top spots for the 2023 year. Each spot as their own perks and uniqueness to them.

Locations in Central Oregon

And other fun ideas

Smith Rock - Terrebonne, Or

Smith Rock State Park is a major landmark in the Central Oregon area. Sought out by avid rock climbers and hikers, this beauty is a must on your list of places to visit. Golden hour (the warm light around sunrise and sunset) is a perfect time to capture your memories at this location. This area can become crowded quickly, so morning and evenings are best since the crowd dies down around then

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Tumalo Falls - Tumalo, OR

Tumalo Falls State Park is beautiful and the perfect place to jump into the water for your session. This spot has to be one of my favorites for senior sessions because it allows for an array of backdrops throughout the whole session. Spring/ summer is the perfect time since wildflowers are in bloom and the water temperature feels amazing on your feet.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Stack Park- Redmond, Or

Stack Park is small cozy spot off NW Kingwood Ave in Redmond. This area is grassy with plenty of shade provided by the trees surrounding the area. This small park is hardly crowded and perfect for families of small children. Definitely a favorite for intimate sessions.
