"you have brains in your head. you have feet in your shoes. you can steer yourself any direction you choose. you're on your own. and you know what you know. and you are the one who'll decide where to go..."

Senior Year
Every year, students gear up for their last year of high school. There are college applications to fill out, last minutes classes to take, football games to attend and of course senior photos to take. The summer leading up to senior year and the start of fall are always a busy time of year but these sessions are some of my favorite! Getting the chance to work with these seniors is a blessing, especially for this girl.
When I first meet her, she was a freshman in high school, just starting to figure out her place among her peers. Watching her grow from freshman to senior has been a blessing and I have been honored to take her photograph throughout the years from simple fall sessions to her sweet sixteen.
When I work with seniors I love to get to know them. I wanna know their hobbies, their dreams, and plans for after high school. These questions help me and the client relax during the session and allow me the chance to capture true smiles. Also, by getting to know them, I am able to incorporate their passions into their photos. Are they a sports player? Or do they prefer painting or yearbook? Photographer themselves? All these are passions or hobbies that I can use towards creating a unique session just for them.
Why are senior photos important?
This last year of high school is a time for celebration. A important chapter of a seniors life is coming to close this last year of high school and senior photos give them a chance to carputer some last minute memoires of their year.
I'll be honest, when I was a senior, I was skeptical at first about getting senior photos done. Why? Because I didn't feel like I fit in with the rest of my peers. I always viewed myself as different. In my mind, I was someone who didn't follow the crowd and because of this mind set, I didn't think that these photos were important. And this is coming from the mouth of someone who has LOVED PHOTOGRAPHY for most of her life. (Remember, I got my first camera at the age of seven.) However, letting my mom talk me into it, and allowing myself to get excited about having senior photos taken, was on of the best things to happen during my senior year. Now I get the chance to look back at those photos and smile. Simply because I remember all the good times I had while in high school.
No one said that high school is easy. Each of theses seniors have worked hard over the last three years to get to this last year. And I believe they each deserver a little pampering and some time to be themselves. Senior photos give them that chance. It allows them to share their personality with their classmates, friends, and family members while also allowing them to celebrate this HUGE milestone.
Celebrate! Laugh, cry, smile, and enjoy this last year. Trust me, it is worth it and an investment that you will not regent.
